Merch is back!

Our Make Vancouver merch shop is open for cozy winter wear! The shop closes November 26, and all orders will be produced after the store closes and shipped on December 11.

Proceeds from sales go directly to the Bowen Island Pride Society to support the Pride Parade & Picnic and future events that celebrate and uplift Bowen’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies.

Thank you to Make Vancouver for partnering with us once again and helping keep the rainbow spirit alive all year round!

“Hello, My Name Is”... Artist Call for the Bowen Pride Festival 2026

The Hearth Gallery is partnering with Bowen Island Pride Society to create the Bowen Pride Festival 2026, a community-based, multidisciplinary celebration of LGBTQIA+ identities, stories, and belonging.

The Hearth is seeking proposals from 2SLGBTQIA+ artists working in all media  - visual, literary, performance, and beyond - as long as the work is original and authentically yours. Artwork created in cultural styles to which the artist has no ancestral or cultural connection will not be considered.

The theme, “Hello, My Name Is,” invites artists to explore intersections of queerness, identity, and belonging in creative and meaningful ways.

🏳️‍⚧️ November is Trans Awareness Month

Throughout November, we honour Trans Awareness Month, a time to celebrate, uplift, and stand in solidarity with our transgender and gender-diverse community members, here on Bowen Island and beyond.

It’s a month to deepen understanding, challenge stigma, and continue building a community where everyone can live openly, authentically, and with pride. Trans folks have always been part of our shared story, contributing to art, culture, leadership, and everyday life - often in the face of discrimination and misunderstanding.

We also pause on November 20 for Trans Day of Remembrance, to honour and remember trans and gender-diverse people lost to anti-trans violence. Take a moment to reflect, light a candle, or reach out in solidarity. Together, we can ensure that Bowen Island remains a place where everyone belongs, exactly as they are.

Rocky Horror Wrap-Up

Bowen, you blew us away! The first-ever screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Bowen Theatre was an incredible success - from the costumes to the energy to the laughter echoing through the ridiculous night.

Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support Bowen Pride, and to our amazing friends at Bowen Island Community Recreation for their partnership and creativity. We’re so lucky to have such inclusive (and fabulously fun!) programming in our community.

That’s it for our November newsletter. Want to get this news right in your inbox? Click that subscribe link below!
